I was planning my first major vacation of the year. Based on previous trips, which involved a lot of being on my feet, I had learned that lugging my large purse around with me was not going to be a good idea. So, I searched everywhere for a bag that would be compact yet big enough to hold something like bottled water and miscellaneous travel items.

I finally came across this brand called Pacsafe. For me, safety, especially far from home, is important.  I had read that this brand makes bags with “slashguard.” It’s basically mesh on the inside the material that cannot be cut through. The hook from the strap that connects to the bag also has a locking mechanism, so it’s just about impossible for someone to snatch the bag from you.

After looking at the variety, I finally decided on the Pacsafe MetroSafe 200 Anti-Theft Shoulder Bag. It didn’t look too big, had side pockets to hold bottled water, and had a little opening for earbuds. Well, I took it on my trip, and I could not be happier! This bag held all my stuff (of which I have a lot of), and I felt it was very secure. My concern was that the strap is not padded, so I figured I might feel some soreness. I’m pleased to say I never felt anything of that nature.

Another feature I like is that there is a zippered pocket on the outside where the zipper pull can be tucked away. No worries about anyone trying to open my bag without me noticing!

There are a couple of drawbacks, though:

1. The main compartment is a Velcro closure. I suppose it would be difficult for a pickpocket to open it without you noticing, but in my experience, Velcro doesn’t last that long. I guess only time will tell with this bag.

2. It won’t fit the typical sized water bottle. When I went to buy water, I had to try different brands just to see what fit. It was only a slight inconvenience.

Overall, I was very pleased with this bag. I’d say it’s unisex, although I’m sure my boyfriend would never use it. It comes in different colors, but I got mine in black. After all, there’s no need for my bag to stand out, right?

Bottom Line: Security for under $50. Now that’s a bargain!
